Purpose of Your Job Position: As a Consulate Health Care Residential Assistant, you are entrusted with the responsibility of caring for our residents, families, co-workers, visitors and all others; as well as demonstrating in all interactions, Consulate Health Care’s five corvalues of Compassion, Honesty, Integrity, Respect and Passion. The primary purpose of your job position is responsible for performing indirect care for residents; adhering to specific procedures and programs; coordinating work within the department as well as with other departments; complying with all operating policies and procedures; reporting pertinent information to the assigned supervisor; responding to inquiries or requests for information; interacting in a courteous, tactful, friendly and cooperative manner; handling issues, complaints, inquiries and questions; attending all mandatory in-service meetings and education programs. You are entrusted to provide innovative, responsible healthcare with the creation and implementation of new ideas and concepts that continually improve systems and processes to achieve superior results.

JOB FUNCTIONS: As Residential Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authorityresponsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.  Responsible for performing indirect care for resident; adhering to specific procedures and programs; coordinating work within the department as well as with other departments; complying with all operating policies and procedure; reporting pertinent information to the assigned supervisor; responding to inquiries or requests for information; interacting in a courteous, tactful, friendly, and cooperative manner; handling issues, complaints, inquiries and questions; attending all mandatory in service meetings and education. Duties and Responsibilities: 
1.              Assists with orienting of all new residents.
2.             Review the daily entries of activities recorded by the previous shift.
3.             Performs regularly scheduled rounds and monitors residents’ conditions.
4.             Assists residents with daily personal needs including bathing, grooming, dressing, bed-making, ambulatory aids, and catheter devices; strips and re-makes beds as assigned; administers first aide, and lotions and creams may be required.
5.             Assists and escorts residents to dining room and other in-house activities; monitors residents in the dining room at meal time and provides assistance as needed; assists dinging room staff with minor room and dining preparations.
6.             Monitors residents’ self-medication, as assigned.
7.             Distributes meal traydelivered from the kitchen to individual rooms; assists in feeding residents who are unable to feed themselves; collects food trayafter meals and places on carts for return to kitchen.
8.             Records and charts vital signs including blood pressure, temperature respiration and weight checks.
9.             Responds to incoming phone calls.
10.           Assist with arranging residents’ appointments’ and transportation; accompanies residents to appointments as assigned.
11.           Reports unusual incidents or changes in resident behavior to the assigned supervisor.
12.           Assist in searching and picking up resident meal trays; monitors residents during mealtime and records amounts of food consumed;
assists certified nursing assistants in passing snacks as requested.
13.           Ensures an atmosphere, which allows for the privacydignity, and well being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
14.           Follows universal and when appropriate, transmission-based precautions.
15.           Maintains awareness of individual responsibilities under the established Fire Safety/Disaster plan.
16.           Supports and participates in the organization’s performance improvement initiatives.
17.           coordinates specific work tasks with othepersonnel within the department as well as with other units and departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficienflow of information.
18.           Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles
information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel.
19.             Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, othepersonnel, etc., within givetime frames and within established policy.
20.           Interacts with residents, residents’ families, volunteers, visitors and the general public as well as other employees and departments in a courteous, tactful, friendly, and cooperative manner.
21.           Handles issues, complaints, inquiries and questions from residents and thgeneral public.
22.           Attends all mandatory inservice education programs and required meetings.

Safety: Follow established safetregulations, to include fire protection/prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc. Follow established ergonomics policies and procedures governing lifting techniques, repetitive tasks, and the use of safety equipment and supplies to prevent work-relateinjuries and illnesses.

Resident Rights: Maintain thconfidentialitof all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.

Review complaints and grievances made by thresident and make a written/oral report to the Nurse Supervisor indicating what action(s)
were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance. Follow the facility’s established procedures.

 
Works in office areas as well as throughout thfacility. Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Working Conditions: Works beyond normal working hours, weekends and holidays and on other shifts/positions as necessary. Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severweather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Is subject to injurfrom falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department personnel.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
Is  involved  with  residents,  family  members,  personnel,  visitors,  government  agencies  and  personnel,  etc.,  under  all  conditions  and circumstances. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

 
Education/Experience
Secondary Education Diploma or GED equivalent or two (2) years experience. Must be able to work independently

Must possess excellent interpersonal, coordinating, and organizational skills

Must be able to manage multiple tasks at one time.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and possess good communication skills. Must possess the ability to make independendecisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide training appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing training practices. Must possess the ability to plan and develop new programs.
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficulresidents and staff.
Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety to other individuals in the workplace..
 
Physical and Sensory Requirements
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and writthe English language in an understandablmanner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that threquirements of this position can bfully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet thgenerahealth requirements set forth by the policies of the company, which include a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderlyemotionallupsetandat times, hostile people within thfacility.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
