The Industry Specialist Instructor provide technical instruction and hands-on skills support for Industry focused technical training in a lab environment. Ensure all safety standards and protocols are observed.


Position Type: Full Time

Starting Rate: $37.00 per hour


Working Hours: 

Shift: As needed to provide lab coverage, may work as a substitute instructor. Coverage may include evening hours 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

Note: The working hours during any given day will not be divided so as to require the employee to report to work more than one time unless agreed upon by both parties.


Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Students

  1. Provide lab orientation and set student expectations: attendance, schedule, pace, assignments, grading, etc.
  2. Provide primary instruction and skills assessment.  Provide secondary instruction in Mechanical and Electrical Systems, and Preventive Maintenance/Troubleshooting.
  3. Assess and evaluate student’s comprehension and ability to progress at the pace necessary to complete on time.
  4. Provide individualized feedback and support (including referrals as appropriate). Identify and discuss with student the appropriate level of remedial support.
  5. Grade and record all student grades.
  6.  Encourage student progress by addressing attendance concerns directly with the student.
  7. Assist in Advising session with student as requested.


Curriculum

  1. Assist in defining and evaluating new course materials including assessment of equipment to ensure relevance to industry trends, needs, and growth. As required develop/adapt curriculum to LMS.
  2. When possible develop/utilize supplemental course material and skills performance to support student’s understanding and competency.
  3. Recommend and evaluate industry requested customized courses and programs while maintaining the integrity of course curriculum ensuring all pre-requisite training/experience, credentials are in place.
  4. As appropriate, collaborate with Industry Partners or STEM Division to design and deliver new courses.  

Training Environment and Equipment

  1. Maintain professional decorum creating a respectful and encouraging lab environment.
  2. Maintain all lab equipment - performing regular maintenance as required.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades
  • Request parts and lab supplies
  1. Maintain a safe and organized training environment in compliance with all safety procedures and protocols.
  2. Maintain lab cleanliness standards.


Administrative

  1. Report all grades to Records Specialist to enter into Colleague meeting all grading deadlines.
  2. Identify and troubleshoot all equipment and software failures. Inform Director and Training Support Specialist (TSS) of escalation to vendors, IT, etc. Include TSS in vendor/IT discussion for tracking and reporting purposes.
  3. Review and sign off on all quotes and equipment purchase orders prior to submission.
  4. Participate in business strategy planning sessions designed to support retention, growth, market expansion, market penetration and the overall success of the business unit and RACC.
  5. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  6. Take part in relevant Industry visits as requested.  
  7. Achieve and maintain all required credentials for industry or vendor certified instructors. 
  8. Prepare and participate in required RACC events (I.e. STEM Day) and training programs.
  9. Any other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Required 

  1. Recognized industry credentials and/or AAS/ BS degree
  2. 3+ years industry experience
  3. Geometry and Basic Algebra

Preferred

Journeyman credentials

Supervisory experience

Prior teaching/mentorship experience

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to read prints/schematics
  2. Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
