AmeriCorps Member Sought to Support Community Revitalization in South Schuylkill
South Schuylkill Unified (SSU) is seeking an AmeriCorps Community Revitalization and Economic Development Member to serve with the organization through CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps for the 2026–2027 service year.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in community revitalization, economic development, nonprofit leadership, public service, or community engagement to gain hands-on professional experience while making a difference in communities throughout southern Schuylkill County.
Working alongside SSU's Executive Director and community partners, the AmeriCorps member will help engage residents and volunteers, support local businesses, assist with downtown and community revitalization initiatives, conduct community outreach and research, and participate in projects designed to strengthen the region. The member will also have opportunities to attend meetings and trainings with municipal leaders, elected officials, nonprofit and business partners, and community and economic development professionals.
Benefits of full-time AmeriCorps service include:
$21,415 total living allowance during the service term

$7,395 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of service, which may be used for eligible educational expenses or qualified student loans
Student loan forbearance and potential interest repayment for qualifying loans
Professional development, training, mentorship, networking, and hands-on career experience
SSU is particularly interested in applicants who are passionate about helping communities realize their own vision for their neighborhoods. Previous experience in community or economic development is not required. Curiosity, initiative, strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to community service are especially valued.
The AmeriCorps member will also be encouraged to bring their own ideas and perspectives to SSU's work and may have the opportunity to develop and lead a capstone-style community project during their service year.
